On Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Viktor Chernomyrdin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Ukraine.
During the meeting, the Parties discussed a wide range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation, and stressed the importance of giving impetus to the parliamentary constituent of Ukrainian-Russian relations.
V.Lytvyn and V. Chernomyrdin deem necessary to restore activity of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, defining the set of priority issues to be scrutinized.
At the request of V. Chernomyrdin, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appraised the results of the working visit of Ukrainian parliamentary delegation to the Russian Federation held on 28-29 December 2008. Thus, he considers the results to be "very positive".
V.Lytvyn stated that the level of meetings held within the scope of the visit "confirms the willingness to secure a new quality of bilateral relations, and fill them with a pragmatic content, giving impetus to the inter-parliamentary component".
